FAQ

your questions finally answered

We love your work but aren’t local, can we still work together?

YES! I love working with clients across the country. We can have a virtual coffee date (or tea, or beer, really whatever you like to drink is fine with me!) to chat about your stationery via the phone or Zoom. Your stationery proofs are always sent via email, and I can mail paper samples, color swatches, or anything else you may need to hold in your hands.

Why should we choose custom designed invitations?

Working with the Chatty Press, you get one-on-one service and a choice in each and every detail. Every illustration created, typeface chosen, and color printed is truly unique to you. You’ll never see another couple with your invitation design. Once your invitations are mailed to guest, I’ll bring the style and mood through to all of your wedding day details, so you don’t have to waste time hunting down a menu that matches your invite, or a cocktail napkin a portrait of your dog!. I’ll take care of all your stationery needs so you two can just enjoy time together!

When should we contact you about custom invitations?

I recommend getting in touch 6-8 months before your wedding to allow ample time for the design and printing of your invitations. Inquiries can be made 12-18 months in advance. Kindly reach out as soon as possible, as I take on a limited number of clients each season.

How much does a custom invitation suite cost?

There are many variables with custom design, such as printing technique, paper choice, embellishments, and the number of elements in each suite. A set of 75 custom designed invitations (invitation card, reply card, details card and envelopes) begin at $3200 for digital printing and $3600 for letterpress printing. Most chatty press clients spend $3500-$5500 on their invitations and save the dates.

What is your custom design process?

From the sketch, to the proof, to the printing, read all about the design process here.

Is there a minimum number of invitations we need to order?

No. I’ll help create the perfect invitation for any size celebration. You’ll need one invitation suite for each household you are inviting. A minimum investment of $3000 is required for each project.

Can you create our Menus, Seating charts, Signage, Etc?

Yes! It’s my favorite part! I love bringing your invitation style into all the amazing wedding day details that make your day unique, from menus, seating charts, place cards, favors, cocktail napkins, and beyond. If you’ve been dreaming of it, I can help bring it to life!

How much should we budget for our wedding day details?

Most clients spend $2000-$4000 on the design and creation of all their wedding day details. From menus, signature drink signs, seating charts, place cards and everything in between, I’ll take care of all the details you’ve been dreaming of.

We have no idea what we want can you help us?

Yes! Creating an invitation that fits your wedding is what I do best! We’ll work together to create a mood board for your day based on elements you may have already decided on (venue, dress etc). From there I’ll create 2-3 sketches of potential invitation suites, then we will bring your favorite to life!

What printing methods do you use?

I love letterpress (who doesn’t), but I also work with a variety of printing techniques like screen printing, foil printing, laser cutting, digital, and offset printing. If there is a specific type of printing your heart is set on, I can design your suite with that process in mind. Not sure what all of those things are? No sweat! I’ll suggest the best printing method to match your wedding day style.

How long does it take to design and print our stationery?

The design and printing process takes approximately 10-12 weeks. This gives us 6-8 weeks for the design process and usually 4 weeks for printing and production.

Will you assemble and mail our invites for us?

Happily! Full assembly and mailing is an optional add-on service for all save the dates and wedding invitation suites.

Do you offer envelope addressing?

Yes! It’s included in each suite, with the option to upgrade to hand calligraphy. Your envelope should be as unique as the invitation inside, which is why I often add illustrations and wow-worthy designs along with the addresses.

Do you offer calligraphy?

From ornate and classic to wild and bold, I work with a select set of talented calligraphers for envelope addressing, place cards, and anything else we might need to embellish your stationery.

When should we mail our invitations?

Invitations can be mailed to your guests 8-10 weeks before your wedding. For destination weddings, I recommend mailing 8-12 weeks before the wedding, as well as sending a save the date 10-12 months before.

How much postage will we need?

I’ll help calculate the right amount of postage for your suite and provide a few stamp options (current stamps, or vintage postage stamps) for you to choose from.

Do you have pre-designed invitations we can choose from?

Not currently. All of my work is truly custom for each couple to match their personalities, their love story, and their wedding day style.

Can I customize my invitation wording?

Of course! If you have specific wording in mind, I’m happy to use it. Otherwise, I’ll work with you to create the perfect wording for your wedding, formal or fun, and everything in between.

Can you send us samples of past work?

Yes, if you’re in the New England area (Boston to Portland, Maine), I’d love to meet up and walk about your dream invitations! If you’re across the country, a sample of past work can be mailed upon request.

Do you design things other than wedding invitations?

Yes! From gala invitations, birth announcements, Holiday cards, thank you notes, business stationery and party details. The list goes on! Get in touch and let’s chat!
